The British Royal Wedding date of Friday April 29th, 2011 has sparked a mini fashion frenzy with all eyes on Kate Middleton, the 28 year old fiancée of Prince William, also 28 and second in line to the throne.
Unlike the pretty but naïve 19 year old Diana, who married Prince Charles in the last Royal Wedding on July 29th, 1981, Kate Middleton is a mature young woman who already has her own sense of elegant, chic style. This article looks at what’s likely to be in demand if you want to emulate Kate Middleton’s unique look.
Kate Middleton’s Fashion Style
A quick look at Kate Middleton’s fashion style, as illustrated in Vogue’s online style file of the new Princess, shows a beautiful young woman who dresses confidently, with elegance and sophistication. Princess Catherine, as she will officially be known, likes both designer and high street fashion, in particular, the designer Daniella Issa Helayel, whose Issa label knee length dresses she has been wearing for the last 5 years.
It was a blue Issa label dress she chose for the couple’s engagement announcement and that dress, together with high street copies, are flying off the shelves. Also in demand are chic feathered hats, slim pencil skirts, fitted jackets and accessories like long socks and chunky leather belts, as seen in her sassy twist on traditional tweed.
In New York, the hot bed of fashion, there are reports of hundreds of young women asking for Kate Middleton cuts at hair salons, a sexy, easy-to-manage look of long brown tumbling hair. And then of course, there’s the ring.

The engagement ring given to Kate Middleton by William while they were on holiday in Kenya in October 2010, is actually Diana’s 18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring given to her by Prince Charles. William said he gave it to Kate as "It was my way of making sure my mother didn't miss out on today, and the excitement and the fact that we're going to spend the rest of our lives together."
Now, sapphire and diamond rings are so desirable, that the New York based Natural Sapphire Company is struggling to keep up with demand. Add to that, the number of couples choosing to get married on the same Royal Wedding date of April 29th, and it is likely that any Kate Middleton fashion, whether it is clothes, accessories or jewelry, is sure to sell out almost as soon as it hits the shelves.
Royal Wedding Dress
Fashion gurus are also waiting with baited breath as to who will design the Royal Wedding dress. Will it be one of the favorites like Amanda Wakeley, according to Vogue; Bruce Oldfield who, according to designer friend, Ben de Lisi in December 11th's Telegraph, has already been chosen; or even Kate’s favorite designer, Daniella Issa Helayel?
Whoever does design Kate’s wedding dress is sure to benefit from a frenzy of orders, once the announcement is made, and the high street will be close behind, trying to emulate the look for brides-to-be who want to look like the Princess on their own wedding day.

Right now, knee length dresses, sassy feathered hats, slim pencil skirts and Kate’s long wavy locks are the hot fashion items to look like elegant Princess Catherine.
