Gerbera jamesonii is named after Scotsman Robert Jameson who discovered the flower in South Africa in the late 1800’s. He brought it back to the UK and enhanced its color and quality, adding to its popularity.
Today, the main commercial growers of the gerbera are in the Netherlands and Columbia although this simple yet beautiful daisy is grown all over the world.
The main growing season is from March to May as with many other spring flowers but it can be grown all year round, making it an affordable wedding bouquet option.
Daisies were once known as the “love flower” as young girls pulled off the petals whilst chanting “he loves me, he loves me not;” another romantic reason to choose daisies over other wedding flowers.
