Colored fashion contact lenses can be worn by anyone, even if they don't require vision correction. Choose from color enhancing lenses or crazy designs for fancy dress.

Colored contacts are fast becoming a must-have fashion accessory for everyday wear and fancy dress. Popular with celebrities who seem to change the color of their eyes as often as their clothing, fashion contact lenses can be worn both by people who need vision correction as well as those who don’t. Just as fashionable eye glasses can be worn with zero prescription lenses, so can so called plano contact lenses that have zero dioptric power.

These fashion soft contact lenses come in a huge range of colors and crazy designs. Choose from an array of animal effect lenses in reds and yellows, spiral hypnotic lenses to scare friends and family or support a favorite soccer or baseball team with contacts bearing the team logo. The colored lens has a simple “tint” that is see-through for the wearer; only the onlooker sees the vivid color.

Wild Eyes Colored Contact Lenses Without Prescription

Before rushing out to buy fashion contact lenses, it’s important to remember that wild eyes lenses are classed as a medical device by US Federal Law and retailers should ask for a prescription even if the wearer does not require an actual prescription for vision correction.

Anyone with perfect eyesight may find this a chore, but it’s important to get eyes checked out thoroughly before attempting to insert a foreign body like a plastic lens in them. Apart from confirming whether fashion lenses are suitable for the patient or not, a good optician will be able to advise on correct cleaning and disinfection procedures, critical for maintaining eye health. You will also be able to have a contact lens "fitted" so you know what it feels like on the eye.

Crazy Eyes Contacts

The popularity of crazy eyes contacts has created a huge growth in online stores offering fashion lenses at crazy prices. Genuine Crazy Eyes colored lenses from Copper Vision or Wild Eyes branded lenses from competitor Ciba Vision cost between $60 and $90 per pair, yet cheap contacts can be found on the internet from as little as $20 per pair.

In most cases, these ultra cheap lenses are only available in plano form with retailers claiming they are purely for cosmetic purposes but, while they are not correcting vision, some of these discount contact lenses are made of poor quality materials that may scratch the eye. It is therefore advisable to only buy good quality branded fashion contact lenses from reputable retailers that require buyers to visit a qualified optician first.

Cosmetic Contact Lens Care

Follow these guidelines to ensure healthy eyes when wearing fashion cosmetic contact lenses:

  • Check that the lens is perfectly clean before placing on the eye.
  • Do not share fashion contacts with friends to avoid risk of eye infection.
  • If eyes become sore, remove the lenses immediately.
  • Remember to clean and store lenses in a good quality lens solution recommended by an optician; they can be reused many times if cared for properly, just remember to change the solution periodically if storing the contacts for more than a month.

Buy Fashion Contact Lenses

Invest in a good quality pair of cosmetic fashion contact lenses to enhance or dramatically change eye color. Just remember to get eyes examined by an optician first and buy from a reputable online retailer.

Helen Smeaton :
To buy fashion contact lenses visit an optician to get eyes tested and to make sure your eyes are suitable for them, check the price offered by your eye doctor for the lenses required, then compare prices online - there are plenty of suppliers advertising cheap lenses, just be sure to buy a branded lens eg Ciba Vision to be safe.
