Learn how to save money on stair lifts for the elderly or disabled. Rent a stair chair lift or buy a used secondhand or reconditioned model. Find out where.

Looking to buy stair lifts but not sure how affordable a home elevator actually is? A home stair chair lift can provide much-needed independence and a new lease of life for elderly or disabled people who can no longer negotiate stairs; but at what cost?

This article offers advice on renting or buying a reconditioned model, or even buying a new one at trade price to make the purchase of stair lifts more affordable.

Home Stair Lift Prices

Getting old isn’t much fun when you can’t manage steps or stairs anymore and for many people, the high cost of a home stair lift simply isn’t an option. Straight stair lifts from high quality manufacturer, Stannah, for example, cost upwards of £2350 (approximately $3750) and curved stair lifts are well over £5000/$8000.

While stair lift prices should be weighed against the cost of alternative mobility solutions such as moving to a single storey property or employing a home help, even though a stair lift may be the best solution, many people will hesitate before making such a high cost investment.

Rent Stair Chair Lifts

So why not think about renting a stair chair lift instead? While doing your research on the best stair lift companies, look closely to see which ones offer a rental option. Stannah, for example, have a choice of 4 models available for rent from just £57/ $90 per month plus VAT.

The rental option is affordable as you just have to find the money for the deposit (which covers the installation and removal fee), approximately 30% of the cost of a new stair lift, then pay the monthly fee. The rental period can be cancelled at just one month’s notice, so is ideal for someone living on a monthly pension.

Reconditioned Acorn and Stannah Stair Lift

An alternative option is to purchase a reconditioned used stair lift. You can buy direct from one of the top manufacturers like Acorn or Stannah. The latter advertises used lifts directly on the Stannah website, with prices starting from just £1695/$2700.

Or search for secondhand stair lifts on specialty websites like Stairlifttrader where you can find classified adverts from previous purchasers who no longer need their stair lifts.

Stair Chair Lifts at Trade Prices

If you’re not concerned about buying the latest model, your purchase could be even more affordable by buying a discontinued model at trade price. Stairlifttrader, for example, offers a range of Stannah, Acorn, Brooks and Liftable brand stair chair lifts. Many are obsolete models no longer produced by the manufacturer, but still available on the secondhand market.

The only word of caution here is to take care if looking for a curved stair lift; most have been made to order so will need careful fitting and probable refurbishment to fit your own home perfectly. Installation should therefore only be done by a professional.

Buy Discounted Top Brand Home Stair Chair Lifts

Affordable top brand stair lifts can be purchased used, or rented direct from the manufacturer or a specialty stair lift website, if the cost of a brand new home elevator is just too expensive. Be sure to do your research carefully beforehand, either online, by visiting showrooms or asking for a home consultation.
