Helen owns and runs a mountain bike and walking business with her husband based in Cyprus, the third largest island in the Mediterranean. She has biked and hiked all over the world prompting her to live the dream and establish her own business Wheelie Cyprus six years ago. Speaking several languages (she has a BSc in French and German), learning Greek to help establish the business in Cyprus came naturally.
Starting a new business is never easy so Helen found a secondary source of income in the form of website building and here's how she started, as a complete novice. Her passion for the great outdoors and the beautiful island of Cyprus led her to start her first website Cyprus Travel Secrets and her internet career has now blossomed into writing part-time for Suite101 plus running her other websites Cheap Wedding Secrets and Comfortable Contact Lens Secrets.
Prior to "living the dream" Helen's background was in the frenetic world of Retail, first menswear then outdoor sports and finally ladies fashion. Her hectic but well paid job as a Business Development Director fuelled her desire to travel and escape everyday life by taking adventure holidays in far flung places like Bolivia, Nepal, Tanzania, Ethiopia, New Zealand and Brazil as well as the most unspoiled places in Europe such as the Emilia Romagna region of Italy and several Greek islands.
As she says "Funny how all my work colleagues wondered how I could relax on a "tiring" activity holiday. Little did they know that an energising activity break can recharge the batteries ten times more than lying on a beach!"
Having her own cycling and hiking business means Helen can indulge her passion for the great outdoors and write about adventures, both past and present.
